Why Use An Awning While Camping

Camping, like many activities, is a sport full of gear, gadgets and nicknacks. Some of them are actually really useful and helpful. Others are the kind of bargain-bin junk that might seem helpful, but you never actually use. An awning falls into the first category. So why use an awning while camping?

All of our rental vehicles come with an awning from ARB. These awnings pack away to a slim and aerodynamic package on the side of the vehicle. It doesn’t affect gas mileage or drive-ability at all, and it’s ready to go at a moment’s notice. These style of awnings are very quick to set up and easy to use.

One of the obvious reasons to use an awning while camping is for bad weather. During rainy days it’s invaluable to have a place to cook, sit, and hang out that is dry. The ARB awnings we use are weatherproof, and when properly staked out with the guy lines can withstand nasty weather. This gives you a tall and reasonably large space to set up your table and chairs, cook station, and more.

If you’re camping in a site that doesn’t have a lot of natural tree cover, you’ll get lots of use from the awning. Set it up and bam, instant shade. For those lazy afternoons in camp, it’s nice to have a spot to sit and read a book, play cards, or just relax that isn’t in the direct sun. An awning gives you shade and incredible airflow for hot days.

Another reasons why you’d use an awning while camping is for extra shelter. Our camper rentals are perfect for two people to sleep in the pop-up tent, but what if you have a larger group? We rent a detachable awning room that zips into the ARB awning once it is set up. This gives you a very private and large room that is another tent. There is plenty of room for everyone in your group with one of these.

If you’re on the fence about getting an awning, you’ll be surprised about how often you find yourself using it. It’s a versatile and easy-to-use addition to any camping kit.
