Frequently Asked Questions

Here is Blog post that explains our “Car” Rental Process and may answer some of your questions!

You must have a valid driver’s license, valid major credit card and insurance to rent one of our vehicles. If you are an international guest, you are required to purchase additional insurance. Please see International Renters and Insurance FAQS below.

Vehicle Rental and General Trip Info

Yes and no. You can take our vehicles Overlanding. You can’t take our vehicles rock crawling. Remember, you are 100% responsible for covering any damage to our vehicle during your rental period. If it is damaged while offroad, it will more than likely be an out-of-pocket expense for you. Our vehicles are built for camping purposes allowing you to get to and camp in many of our national parks, national forests, BLM, and state lands. They are not for rock crawling, mudding, or hardcore wheeling. Doing so will likely incur damage and additional charges. There are certain areas that we do not allow our vehicles under any circumstances. Please reach out to us for clarification on any of the above information.

Yes, you must have valid US driver’s licenses on file with us prior to the start of your trip. See the international section if you are licensed to drive in a foreign country

Yes, major credit card is required to rent one of our vehicles. A 50% deposit is due upon booking a reservation. You’re vehicle is not reserved until we receive the deposit. The balance is due 48 hrs prior to the start of your trip. A $500 pre-authorized security deposit is applied to your credit card as a security deposit. This will not charge your card. It will simply authorize the amount and hold it until you bring the vehicle back in good condition.

Absolutely not. Smell and residue from smoking in a vehicle is incredibly hard and time consuming to remove.  Evidence of vaping or smoking in our vehicle will result in the forfeiting of your $500 deposit. We are very firm on this so please don’t test us.

Pinstripping is the act of leaving scratches, large or small, down the side of the vehicle caused by touching vegetation, branches, and rocks while offroad. DO NOT PINSTRIPE OUR VEHICLES. We are serious about this. If you can’t drive down the road/path/trail without pinstriping our vehicle you shouldn’t be there. Doing so will result in losing your deposit and possible additional charges to restore the paint to original condition. Additional charges can range from $350-$1500 depending on the extent of the damages.

The minimum rental period is two (2) nights or three (3) days. We are one of the few boutique overland camper rental companies that allow such short bookings. If you need a shorter rental please reach out to us at [email protected].

25 is the minimum rental age for our vehicles. This is required by our insurance. To rent a raft you must be 18 or older.

Yes. We have a limited amount of car and booster seats. It is your responsibility to install the seats properly. Hatch Adventures is not responsible for harm or injuries incurred from improperly installed car seats.

While most of the main attractions in the state can be accessed via paved roads, many trailheads and forest service access roads are dirt. The real advantage of a 4WD rental comes in the winter. We highly recommend a 4WD rental with winter rated tires for winter driving. We equip our Jeeps, Toyotas, Broncos, and other rentals with severe winter-rated tires. Having 4WD will help you drive safely, however, remember defensive, cautious driving in the winter is your best bet!

Our Jeeps, Toyota, and Broncos ARE the quintessential Western adventure vehicles. We have built them specifically to navigate the Western environment comfortably and safely. Want to stay out late to explore what our National Parks have to offer? No problem. You can be setup and be your GFC camper rental in under 3 minutes. The Go Fast Campers rooftop tents and campers are extremely comfortable and efficient to use, allowing you to place your focus on the adventure at hand. Camp breakdown is also fast and simple!

Uber, Lyft, or a taxi is the best and cheapest way to get to our shop. It is a short 5 minutes from the airport and a ride costs between $10-20. We can deliver your rental to the airport with a 10% airport concession fee required by the airport plus $100 convenience fee to cover our costs. These fees are non-negotiable and are required for airport delivery.

Vehicles and campers are typically due back to our location at the same time it was picked up on the last day of your stay. Because we operate a small fleet to offer the best-personalized service in the industry and demand is extremely high we must have vehicles back by this time to ensure our next customers have their camper available. Customer service is our priority, please do not hesitate to call or email us to further discuss your trip logistics, with advance notice we are happy to accommodate your needs. If you are late, you may be charged up to an additional rental day.

In most cases, you’ll want to arrange the same transportation back to the airport you arrived in. In some cases, if we have the availability, we are happy to give you a complimentary ride back to the airport. However, this is not always available and please do not count on this as your primary ride back to the airport.

Unlike most rental companies, our goal is to make everything you sign and pay completely transparent. A 4% tax is applied to your reservation total. This is a Montana-required tax applied to all rental vehicles/campers. A 10% concession fee is charged by the Bozeman Airport and a 5% convenience fee is charged by Hatch Adventures if we deliver the rental to the airport. Please see the Policies for specific charges you may be responsible for regarding damage or policy violations.

We currently offer 200 miles per day for our rentals. You can purchase unlimited miles for a one-time fee of $150. This is subject to change. The policy in place at the time of booking is the policy that will apply to your reservation.

If something comes up and you need to reschedule your trip, we would be happy to work with you provided we have units available for your requested dates, just give us a call or send us an email.

14 days or more prior to trip start: Full refund less credit card transaction fees (~6%).

7 days – 24 hrs prior to trip start: trip deposit is forfeited.

24 hrs prior to trip start: entire trip fee is forfeited.

**We will not refund you due to bad weather however, we will provide you with advice on how to make the best of a Montana storm!

As much as our team loves animals, pets are not allowed in our rental vehicles. Evidence of a pet being in the vehicles can result in a pet cleaning fee of $250.

Yes, only with the prior written approval of Hatch Adventures. If you do tow a trailer, we recommend that the trailer be one of our raft trailers. Towing is limited to drift boat trailers and similar only.

Yes. Most of the Montana is covered with gravel roads. We do urge caution while driving on gravel roads and would be happy to explain the difference between the types of roads at our office or via phone.

No. If you decide to travel on an unmaintained road, you are on your own. If anything happens on said unmaintained road you are completely responsible for vehicle recovery, repair/replacement, and our loss of use. If we have to recover the vehicle, it will come at the cost of $250/hr plus mileage at $0.75/mile. You will also be charged a $500 fee for each day driven on trails. If you have something in mind, ask first; we will happily work with you!

You are required to provide us with your own auto insurance policy and proof that it covers rental vehicles, we will verify with your insurance company. Collision and Comprehensive insurance as well as liability are required. If you do not currently have collision and comprehensive on your personal vehicles it can be added onto your policy for the duration of the rental. Please note however, you are personally responsible for any damage done and loss of use endured by Hatch Adventures. You may also choose to purchase insurance during the booking process should you want the rental specific coverage. You can view the vehicles specific page on our website more more information about additional insurance and cost. International travelers are required to purchase the additional insurance.

If you are visiting from abroad, welcome! You will be required to purchase the additional insurance offered by MBA Insurance. You will be required to provide us a photocopy of your valid drivers license, an international drivers permit (IDP obtained in your country of residence). Please email us to discuss insurance and planning your trip with one of our adventure vehicles!

WE LOVE TO! This is why we love what we do! Our team is proud of all the opportunities our beautiful state has to offer. Heck, that’s why we live here! We truly enjoy sharing our knowledge of the state and countless recreation opportunities and educating visitors on best practices to keep land healthy and available for generations to come. Please note: We will not plan out your entire trip, however, we gladly provide recommendations that fit within your schedule and proposed trip goals!

Absolutely not. You are on vacation and we believe you should be doing vacation things, not cleaning a vehicle! You do need to return it with a full tank of gas and we do greatly appreciate it if you remove your trash.

Camping Info

The Go Fast Campers set up and take down with three simple steps, and takes less than 1 minute. Getting into the campers does take some physical strength as you have to get up through the opening to the bed platform which is about waist high. The Go Fast Camper RTTs come with an extendable ladder for easy access from the exterior of the vehicle. Check out our videos on YouTube and in our Gallery for more info. If you have specific questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact us.

We currently have three vehicles equipped for family camping. Our 2021 Toyota Land Cruiser Heritage Edition and our two 2024 Z71 Suburbans are equipped with 4 person iKamper Skycamp DLX roof top tents. Air mattresses in the back of the Suburbans can be used for additional campers. A ground tent can be rented for addtional campers as well.

The Go Fast campers are designed and optimized for two people. The sleeping area is approximately 4 feet wide and 7 feet long. If you are wanting to experience Montana as a family with one of our vehicles equipped with a GFC, please email us and we can give you some ideas. While 3-4 CAN’T sleep in the topper tent, an additional tent or cot can be rented, and kids can easily sleep in the bed of one of our Gladiators, Tacomas, Ranger, or GMC pickups.

While there is plenty of room in our Jeeps, Toyota Land Cruisers, Broncos and Ineos Grenadier, you will want to pack only what you need. We will have you covered on the camping essentials. The camping essentials will take up approximately half the luggage space in our SUVS. If you like to pack a lot and be over-prepared, we recommend booking one of our truck campers. Having a truck bed, they have a lot more space for storage. Make sure you bring the right gear, not ALL of your gear. We will be more than willing to help you with your packing list.

Fishing Info

Our rafts are easy to learn to row, but still require some modicum of skill before some stretches of river are undertaken. If you are a novice oarsman, we highly recommend sticking to the parts of the river we tell you to. If you have never rowed a raft, we highly recommend you go with a guide first and ask for some rowing instruction or take a lesson!

Since all our rafts include oars and a frame, we recommend no more than 3 people per raft, 4 can work if creative, however the fishing frames only have 3 designated seats.

Renters are responsible for their own river shuttle. We recommend the app ShuttleSnap. It is incredibly easy to use, offers shuttles with the best companies on all the major waterways of the state, and you can pay for your shuttle with a credit card right on the app. Most river shuttles are between $25-40 if you want it done for you.

Absolutely! We offer multi-day packages with customizable expedition and fishing frames, large coolers, and everything you need to make your multi-day raft trip a success. Send us a message to talk about your trip and how we can fit your needs.

Within a two hour drive we have access to the Upper and Lower Madison, Yellowstone, Gallatin, Boulder, Stillwater, Missouri, Smith and other waters.

Every raft rental will include:

  • Raft
  • Raft Frame
  • Oars
  • Spare Oar
  • Life Jackets for every person on board
  • Cooler
  • Raft trailer

No, we don’t. If you would like to take a guided fishing trip during your vacation, we would be happy to help you find a local knowledgeable and qualified fishing guide.

If you have any additional questions not covered in this page, please Contact Us! We will be happy to answer any question you throw our way.
