Big Sky’s most outrageous, splash-filled, laugh-out-loud, send-it-into-the-pond event is FINALLY making a comeback! After a five-year hiatus, the Big Sky Pond Skim is back on April 26, 2025, and it’s going to be absolutely EPIC. If you love skiing, snowboarding, costumes, and watching people attempt (and often fail) to skim across an icy pond, this is your moment.
If you’ve never witnessed the chaotic beauty of a pond skim, let me set the scene: spring skiing vibes are in full force, the sun is shining (hopefully), and a crowd of hyped-up skiers, boarders, and après-ski enthusiasts are gathered around a massive pool of frigid mountain water. Contestants—decked out in everything from retro ski suits to full-on mascot costumes—drop in with speed, attempting to glide across the pond without sinking. Some make it. Most don’t. And it’s glorious.
This isn’t just a goofy end-of-season tradition; it’s a rite of passage for Big Sky skiers and snowboarders. Whether you’re participating or just spectating, it’s the perfect way to send off the winter season in style.
For 2025, the Pond Skim is making a big return in a brand-new venue: The Bowl, located at the base of the Powder Seeker lift. This spot will set the stage for some seriously gnarly pond-skimming action.
Participant Check-in: 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM
Live DJ Set by Koastle: 11:00 AM – 1:30 PM
Pond Skim Event: 1:30 PM – 3:00 PM
Awards Ceremony: 3:00 PM
The event is open to skiers and snowboarders brave enough to take on the challenge. But even if you’re not planning to launch yourself into freezing water, you don’t want to miss this as a spectator. The energy is electric, the costumes are wild, and the crashes? Absolutely spectacular.
